Special Collections

Green Mountain College (GMC) located in Poultney, a 185-year old educational institution, closed June 30, 2019. Prior to its closure, WAGS requested to be recipient of its Welsh Room, alumni and institutional archives collections, to care for, preserve and display in Poultney, its home. WAGS was not recipient of the items. We continue to await word regarding dissolution of the archives. The property sold at public auction in August 2020.
On May 27, 2019, an article about Green Mountain College’s Relationship with the Welsh Community was uploaded to the WAGS Facebook page. It is a public page and shareable. We hope it helps all to better understand why it is important to WAGS and the local Welsh heritage community that the college archives remain accessible in Poultney.

Artifacts will be added to the WAGS library’s museum as our collections continue to grow.

At the February 2019 annual meeting of Poultney Area St. David’s Society (PASDS), the officers and members voted to work with WAGS to care for these special collections. Many items in the Welsh Room collection were donated to GMC by family of the local area’s Welsh heritage community. Many citizens in the region have family who were students at the college institution.
