Poultney Museum of History and Art
1 August, 2022:
Rhondda, the WAGS mascot, sends greetings to all.
Since early July, Rhondda has been busy helping to create Welsh heritage exhibits for display in the beautiful setting of the Poultney Museum of History and Art where WAGS has been given exhibit space.
Good news – the exhibits of Welsh heritage interest about Poultney, about Vermont, about New York, about New England, AND throughout the world created by WAGS are ready as are also new exhibits created by the Poultney Museum of History and Art’s team.
The Poultney Museum of History and Art RE-OPENED Monday, August 1, 2022! – – https://poultneymuseumofhistoryandart.org/
WAGS officers and PMHA officers (all volunteers) look forward to chats with many visitors at the new museum.
When you have Welsh heritage questions, please send WAGS an email to – wagsoff1990@yahoo.com . Visit our Facebook page too if you use that.
The Poultney Museum of History and Art is a 501(c)(3) educational non-profit museum since April 2022 located in Poultney, Rutland County, Vermont in the heart of the slate valley. Its mission is “To collect, preserve and promote history and art of the Americas”.
The Welsh-American Genealogical Society (aka WAGS) is a 501(c)(3) educational non-profit genealogical society with library and museum since September 1990. Its mission as a member-helping-member society is “to collect, preserve and promote Welsh heritage throughout the world”.
WAGS is pleased it will have rotating exhibits in this lovely new museum where it can share information about its library collections as well as history about many other Welsh heritage stories and non-profits world-wide. The site will enable a public location for visitors to meet with WAGS volunteers to talk about Welsh history. Many Welsh heritage items continue to be received for the future WAGS library and museum. WAGS continues its program of fund-raising for its much-needed library expansion.
Poultney Museum of History and Art:
The COVID pandemic caused many formation and opening delays for the new museum, which their officers had to sort through. However, the Poultney Museum of History and Art held a first exhibit, a wood carving exhibit created by the Hannah family, most notably by the late Gerald “Pat” Hannah, a Poultney resident until his death in 1967, and his son Duncan, also a former Poultney resident who passed away in 2015. The Hannah exhibit was held at the site from April 15th through June 4th. Portions of the Hannah exhibit will always be in the site. New and rotating exhibits will be added. A gift shop is also within the museum. The museum was closed June 7th to August 1st while exhibits by officers of both Poultney Museum of History and Art, and by WAGS, were organized for display.
WAGS continues its program of fund-raising for its much-needed library expansion. Donations to WAGS are tax-deductible and are greatly appreciated.
Donations to the new Poultney Museum of History and Art (PMHA) are now tax-deductible. Gifts for them from the Welsh community-at-large will be greatly appreciated as a thank you to the new museum for this unique opportunity for WAGS and our Welsh heritage, world-wide.
Gifts in U.S. currency for WAGS as well as for PMHA should be made payable separately to these two unique non-profits. They may be mailed in one envelope to one postal address: c/o WAGS, 60 Norton Ave., Poultney, VT 05764-1029. Appropriate thank you for donor income tax needs will be provided from each non-profit entity.
Should you have questions, please email the WAGS Office – wagsoff1990@yahoo.com . Thank you. (Diolch).
WAGS looks forward to providing updates about the new museum as well as about new exhibits in the WAGS collection. *Note: the WAGS collection is not relocating to the new museum.
